DA MATTA THE WINNER AT HONDA INDY 300

Cristiano da Matta has taken out the Honda Indy 300 crown, with reigning CART champion Gil de Ferran clinching the FedEx Championship series crown.

Over 100,000 fans watched as Michael Andretti crossed the line in second place followed closely by Alex Tagliani.

de Ferran accepted the Vanderbilt Cup – the first time the trophy was presented on the Gold Coast track.

Red flags failed to make an appearance for the first time in eleven years, helping da Matta clock record speeds on the temporary track.
